Life. Money. Hope.
I am so excited about the new series we started at Lifepoint today….Life.Money.Hope. It’s a series by Dave Ramsey, who I consider to be one of my heroes. He did in one 45 minute talk what I had been trying to do for years….change my husbands perspective on our personal finances. 2 years ago, Jeff had a divine appointment at Catalyst sitting in a session by Dave Ramsey. Jeff admits he really wanted to skip that session, which I am so thankful he didn’t. Jeff had a light bulb moment that forever changed how we handled our personal finances.
You see….up until that point, we spent more money than we made. We had balances on a credit card and a credit line. We had a car payment and made payments on the never-ending school loan. Knowing we had all these payments each month AND we were still spending more than we made AND we had no savings was stressing me out, it was definitely a HUGE burden on my back, something I constantly thought about. So, that day, when Jeff called me from Catalyst and told me he was sick of debt and wanted to be free from payments….you can believe that was the biggest relief for me, I was so thankful.
So began our journey to freedom from debt. It was certainly not easy. We had to say no to a lot of things…but I’m happy to say, with exception of our house, we are debt free! These are the 5 points from today’s message, and the steps we took to get where we are today.
1. Get out of Debt
2. Act your Wage
3. Get on a Budget
4. Save and Invest
5. Give
These are simple steps…..they are HARD to put into action, but it is so worth it. Proverbs 22:7 says, “Just as the rich rule the poor, so the borrow is servant (slave) to the lender.”
How are your finances? Are you a slave? Start step #1 today….you’ll be glad you did!
