Change…My World

February 4, 2010

I’m running a little behind this week.  Better late than never right.  This Sunday we wrapped up our Change series with the final message…Change…My World.  Here are my notes:

Matthew 28:16-20 –

16 Then the eleven disciples left for Galilee, going to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go.17 When they saw him, they worshiped him—but some of them doubted!
18 Jesus came and told his disciples, “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth.19 Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations,s baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.20 Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.

Jesus gives the Great Commission to His disciples to go make more disciples.  He’s spent 33 years on the earth…3 of which were dedicated to sharing the gospel and making disciples.  Jesus is now passing the baton to his followers.  To be a part of this mission is to be a world changer.

Steps to be a world changer:

1) You have to listen to Jesus – v.16 says the disciples were going to the mountain where Jesus told them to go.  If they hadn’t listened, they would have missed Jesus.  Are we listening to what Jesus is telling us?  Is there a part of our day where we are quiet enough to hear what Jesus is saying?  Ways to listen to Jesus are:

  • Get in God’s Word – read it
  • Prayer – never ceasing throughout the day
  • Memorize God’s Word –  Psalm 119:11

I have hidden your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.

2)  You must do what Jesus says

  • Go into the uncomfortable
  • Make disciples
  • Teach them to obey

Pay attention to Jesus commands and put them into play in our lives.  ***We can’t ignore the words of Jesus and expect to fulfill His calling for our life***  Our faith must be active – James 2:17

So you see, faith by itself isn’t enough. Unless it produces good deeds, it is dead and useless.

3)  You must not go alone – God is with us…Matthew 28:20b

And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.

Remember….If the call of God was based on our qualifications, none of us would be here.

So – God has given us a command to change the world – and He has given us all we need to do what He’s called us to.

This has been a powerful series.  I’m sure I’ll be looking back over my notes for a while, trying to digest everything.  I hope you’ve gotten a lot out of it as well.
