Life’s Disappointments

April 20, 2010

Yesterday as I was reflecting on some of the events that have taken place this past week, God gently reminded me of His sovereignty.  Sometimes I forget that God cares even about the smallest areas of my life.  Little things I wouldn’t think of asking Him about, yet in the end, He was there the whole time.  God brought this phrase to my mind and I’ve been thinking about it the past day….my disappointments (big or small) usually end up being God’s blessings in disguise.  It makes me think of the old Garth Brooks song, Unanswered Prayers…”some of God’s greatest gifts, are unanswered prayers.”

This is hard to see when you’re in the middle of a disappointment….maybe someone you were for sure you were going to marry, ends up dumping you.  It hurts, you wonder why God?  You didn’t get the job or promotion you were promised.  Your child didn’t get into that school.  So many different things that cause disappointments.  But then later, sometimes years, sometimes days, you realize….Oh – I’m glad that didn’t work out.  What a blessing.  Thank God.  You see this person has cheated on their spouse…that could have been you.  You see the person that did get the job and their life has fallen apart.  Different things that confirm that wasn’t God’s best for your life.

That’s why it is so important to seek God in every area of life….even the little things.  Proverbs 16:3

Commit your actions to the Lord, and your plans will succeed.

And as you’re committing your actions to the Lord, remember Isaiah 55:8

“My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the Lord .
“And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine.

God knows what He’s doing…even if it seems disappointing at the time.
