Happy New Year

January 3, 2011

Happy 2011 to everyone.  I love New Year’s…it’s time for renewing, rethinking & revising.  I like to look back over the past year and see what things worked and didn’t work for my family & me and come at things differently.  It’s a time for a fresh start.  I’ve never been a resolution setter.  I don’t enjoy being confident at the beginning of the year that I will accomplish A,B,C &D this year, then get to the end of the year and feel guilty or beat myself up because I didn’t accomplish these things.  I don’t enjoy guilt or disappointment in myself.

Yesterday’s message at Lifepoint was refreshing as well as a reminder that instead of a laundry list of things to try to make yourself do this year, why not pick just One Thing you feel God is laying on your heart.  Jeff said yesterday that his One Thing from last year was health….spiritually, physically & personally….and while I never said health was mine too….when you walk as closely with someone as you do a spouse you end up with the same goals.  This year I have one of my own – my One Thing is intentionality: done with intention or on purpose.

I am guilty as anyone else of saying how fast time is flying by and truthfully, it’s hard for me to remember sometime what I did even the day before, much less 3 months ago.  I’m tired of allowing life to run me, my goal this year is to be intentional….intentional about  my walk with God, intentional about my relationships with my family members and intentional about my relationships with others.

Two things I’m putting out there public that I would like to do are: 365Project and Siesta Scripture Memory Challenge.  I was inspired to do both of these by my friend Sheila. The 365Project will help me remember a moment from each day through pictures.  I may or may not post the picture every day, or I may post pictures once a week.  Then at the end of the year, hopefully I’ll be able to afford to put together a picture album of all my pictures throughout the year.  and the Siesta Scripture Memory Challenge is on Beth Moore’s blog for Living Proof Ministries.  My goal will be to memorize 2 verses a month.  I will post the verse(s) here on the 1st and 15th of each month and you can feel free to ask how I’m doing.  It’s recommended to do 1 verse at a time as to not get overwhelmed.  I want to memorize Psalm 112.  I want to live these verses.  So here are my verses for the 1st half of January:

Psalm 112: 1-3 Praise the Lord!
How joyful are those who fear the Lord
and delight in obeying his commands.

Their children will be successful everywhere;
an entire generation of godly people will be blessed.

They themselves will be wealthy,
and their good deeds will last forever.

And here is my 1st 365project….I may have to rename it the 363project seeing as I missed a few days 🙂

Today while the kids were in school, I went hunting for Christmas bargains.  Target had everything 75% off.  I found these rice krispie treat houses and thought the kids would enjoy them.  So…here are the kids decorating their houses.

These are a few things I’m excited about this year.  Let me know if you decide to do either one as well.  Happy New Year!!
