DF – Breakfast

January 11, 2011

Daniel Fast friendly breakfast foods:

Oatmeal: Any, so long as it’s not instant.  Right now I have Walmart brand quick oats.  The difference between the cooking times is how much the oatmeal was processed….the quicker cooking the more processed & the less nutritional value.  The longer cooking time the less processed & more nutritional.  I’m eating walmart, cause that’s what I had in my pantry. *** Mix-ins – cut up bananas, cut up strawberries, blueberries, chopped apples, unsweetened soy milk, natural peanut butter, honey***

Quinoa: This is my first time having it and it’s great for breakfast.  I use 1/2 c. quinoa and 1 c. unsweetened soy milk, or you can do water.  You can add some honey…..I usually just add blueberries.  You probably could mix in the same as oatmeal…just figure out what you like.

Oat Bran: Another first for me, and truthfully, I didn’t care for it at all.  If you have a good recipe for it for breakfast, please let me know….I have a mostly full box.  Probably can add all the mix-ins for oatmeal as well.

Granola: Read labels very carefully.  A lot of organic granola still has evaporated cane juice = sugar.  Walmart sells Udi’s Natural Artisan Granola….It’s on the cereal isle at the very end, very top, they have original and cranberry.  It’s sweetened with honey.  Eat as cereal for breakfast with unsweetend soy milk.

Smoothies: A favorite at our house even when not on Daniel Fast.  There are probably thousands of smoothie recipes, which I would like to broaden my options….I’m not good at making things up 🙂  I use about a cup of soy milk and a gigantic handful of fresh spinach.  Blend that up real good FIRST.  Then I put in about 1/4 c. frozen blueberries, then about 5-6 frozen strawberries, maybe 1 Tbl honey, then maybe 1- 1 1/2 bananas.  I don’t measure anything out, just eyeball it.  If it’s too thick for you, add more soy milk…too runny, add more banana.  I’d love to hear your favorite smoothie recipes!

Ezekiel bread: Not a huge fan, but is pretty filling.  Lightly toast a piece, spread with natural peanut butter and drizzle with honey

Fresh fruit

That’s about all I have for breakfast….let me know if you have any other ideas!!
