Privilege of Prayer

February 10, 2011

Did you know prayer is a privilege we have because we are children of God.  By having the Creator of the Universe as our Heavenly Father we can go to Him at any time and He will hear us.  A few verses that have to do with God hearing us:

Proverbs 15:29 The Lord is far from the wicked,
but he hears the prayers of the righteous.

Psalm 120:1 I took my troubles to the Lord;
I cried out to him, and he answered my prayer.

Psalm 116:1 I love the Lord because he hears my voice
and my prayer for mercy.

Psalm 102:17 He will listen to the prayers of the destitute.
He will not reject their pleas.

Do you use your privilege?  Sometimes it may be hard to find time to pray or even know what to pray.  I have let myself free from the idea that I have to have a specified time of prayer because if I happen to miss a day or two or 35 Satan sure knows how to turn on the guilt.  So I just take the legs out of that plan and just don’t have a specified time.  I have come to just pray throughout the whole day and not really have a beginning or end, but just a continual conversation.

Maybe it’s hard for you to think of things to pray about….I have found a few resources that are very helpful.

These for praying for your husband…I didn’t look, but if you’re a husband reading this, there is probably the same type of books for praying for your wife.

And here’s one for praying for your children:

Both books use Scripture to pray.  Here’s an example from Praying God’s Will for your Husband:

I pray that whatever my husband does, he does it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men.  Colossians 3:23

Here are some of the topics: Anger, Courage, Emotionally Upset, Godly Life, Lonely, Marriage & Protection

So, wherever you are in your prayer life, I pray that it is active and alive and you see it as a privilege to pray for your family!
